What is Tokimeki?
Tokimeki is an SLG, a Simulation Love Game. But if you didn’t already know
that, what the heck are you even reading this FaQ for?!
What is this FaQ for?
Hopefully, this FaQ will help guide you through your game of Tokimeki
Memorial.
Strategy for dating the girls.
If you think this is going to be easy, you are soooo wrong. It’s like
juggling a bunch of live bombs, never knowing when one will go off on you.
Basically, the better you are at wooing the girls, the harder this game will be
for you!
Well, since you can only make a call only when it’s a vacation (as seen
when the date is in red), you really have to plan out how you want to date your
girls. First, date your steady at least once a month. Date all other girls in a
rotational cycle, for eg. your steady is Mira. Date Mira, Ayako, Mira, Megumi,
Mira, Yuina etc etc.
To make a date, it’s as simple as calling the girl, choosing a date and a
spot. Of course, it depends if the girl accepts or not. Usually, girls who are
very in love with you will almost never refuse. When the day of the date
arrives, you are prompted by the heart-shaped button. Press it and you can go to
the date.
Of course, don’t take girls to the same date spot twice in a row, or their
opinion of you will lower slightly. Also, if you plan two dates too close
together, you’ll be given an option of which date spot you chose on that day,
don’t worry, even if you choose the wrong one, you’ll be able to change it
later. Just that you’ll be late for the date, and the girl’s opinion of you
will drop. ^_^
Basically, the better you treat a girl, the more she will like you and expect
you to spend more time with her. This includes accepting her offers to walk home
with you, and invitation on dates.
Date Locations
The list as follows:
Nearby Park Art
Museum Cinema
Central Park
Library
Concert
Shopping street Indoor arcade
Waterpark
SeaWorld Bowling
alley Beach
Zoo
Karaoke
Religious festival
Botanical gardens Amusement Park Skating
Planeterium
Stadium Skiing
Note that all the date locations will not show up at once. Some like the
waterpark, beach, religious festival, skating and skiing depend on the date and
season. Others will show up gradually as you progress in the game and check the
magazine a lot.
Bombs
What are bombs? Basically, bombs are when one of the girls feels that you
have been ignoring her too much and decides to start set a bomb on you. A bomb
will lower your standing with all the other girls, and may even cause some of
the other girls to set bombs on you. Bombs are generally not a good thing, but I’ve
found them useful sometimes, when I’ve had too many females thinking too
highly of me, a bomb helped to quickly reduce their opinion of me. (Except for
the girl I was chasing in that game, who still had the highest opinion for me).
It all depends, usually when you’ve been bombed, do NOT reset immediately.
Call Yoshio and check your standing with all the other girls. If it doesn’t
affect you too badly, let it be.
Also, girls who like you a lot are more likely to bomb you than girls who don’t
like you at all! If Yoshio calls you up in the middle of night and there’s a
dramatic sound effect, it means someone has set a bomb on you.
Events
After School
Occasionally, you can meet one of the girls when school is over. You can either
choose whether to ask them to walk back with you or not. Girls may refuse your
offer though. On the other hand, if a girl is interested in you, she may pop up
to you and ask you to walk back with her instead.
Birthdays
Yes, the girls in Tokimeki Memorial do have birthdays. And when their birthdays
come, you have the choice of choosing whether or not to give them a present. I’m
sure you know which to choose eh? Well, what you give to the girl all depends on
her character. For Yuina, it’s science-related stuff. For Mira, it’s vanity
stuff, like jewellery. Megumi likes animal-related stuff. Etc etc. There is one
BEST item, one MEDIUM item and one WORST item, of which you can only choose one
to give to them. If it’s not your steady’s birthday, I suggest giving them
the MEDIUM item.
Christmas Party
Every year, Rei Ijuin holds a X-mas Party. Your duty is to crash it (well, not
really, but you must try and attend it). Now, you need an appearance statistic
of 80 the first year, 100 the second year, and 120 the next year. At the party,
you’ll meet Rei, and three girls. One of them will always be Shiori, while the
other two are random I think. It is also at this party that you’ll get
introduced to Megumi if you’re on good enough terms with Shiori. Also, you get
to choose from 4 presents (1 from Shiori, 1 from Rei, the other two from the
other two girls). I don’t really know whether which present you choose makes a
difference. Anyway, after the party, if a girl really really likes you, you’ll
have sequence with her where you walk her home.
Dates
Sometimes, during dates, you will be bumped into by a bunch of thugs and you
will get into an RPG-esque fight. First you have to fight off the lesser thugs,
then when they lose, they MAY call out their boss, who is just called Chief.
There are two options in the fighting menu. Three if you have been in a club for
all 3 school years.
- Normal Attack
- Defend. –Attacks do less damage, not to mention you gain some life back
when you choose this.
- Special Attack. – Depends on which club you joined for 3 years.
If you defeat the Chief, he will make you the new Chief, and his name will
change to that of Ex-Chief.
During School
Sometimes, girls will ask you out during school. If you want to refuse them,
pick the first 2nd option. Here’s how they will ask you out. Eg.
Girl: Are you free this Sunday?
You: 1) Yes, I am.
2) No, I’m very busy.
If you say yes, you still have a chance to reject her (2nd choice
again) but you’ll hurt her feelings more than if you just chose the first 2nd
choice.
Exams!
It’s hard to believe, but there are exams even in Tokimeki Memorial. (Aaaargh!!)
How well you do in your exams depends on your statistics. I don’t really know
if there’s any purpose to getting good marks for the exams, compared to crappy
marks though. Of course, your grades affect which university you can go to after
you graduate. So if you wanna go to the same university as, say Shiori, a first
class university. You’d better work on those statistics!
Field Trips
On the second year of your schooling, you’ll be forced to go on a field trip.
The place you go is up to you, you’ve got 3 choices. I can’t really see what
difference it makes which place you choose though. On the third day of the trip,
you can choose a girl to go out with. Or if a girl likes you enough, she’ll
approach you first. On the fifth day, you will go out with that same girl, and
you’ll be attacked. Attackers depends on which place you chose to go to. You’ll
have an option of both of you running, or asking the girl to run while you delay
the monster. I’m sure you know which to choose ne? If you do choose the right
one, the girl’s opinion of you will increase.
New Year
Time for Resolutions...Well, not really. On New Year’s day, you have the
option of choosing which girl you want to go with you to the shrine. Don’t
know if they can refuse since I’ve never had a female refuse me. Anyway, if a
girl is madly in love with you (happiest face) they will drop by to accompany
you without you calling them out.
Valentine’s Day.
Yes, Valentine’s Day, the day when people give chocolates to each other.
Except in Tokimeki Memorial, there are 2 V-Days. One is on 14th Feb,
where the girls give chocolate to you. Girls can either give you friendship
chocolates, or they can give you the other kind. How to tell? Well, other than
reading Japanese, I don’t think there’s any other way. You could try and see
if they’re blushing when they give it to you. The other V-Day is on 14th
March, where it’s your turn to give the chocolate to the girl you like!
Whoever you give it to, will have a better impression of you!
